Change is coming...but it is a good change! During the month of
November we are beginning an exciting two-phase transition project on one of
ECHO’s most utilized exhibit areas--Discovery Place! This space is so well-used
and loved that Champ’s paint is fading, the sailboat is listing, and the dock
is in need of repair. It is time for a Discovery Place Makeover! The makeover
will be a two-phase project beginning the week after Thanksgiving.

THE FIRST PHASE: During the first phase, ECHO staff will be
transforming our current classroom, (this is the meeting space next to
Watershed Way on the top floor), into an updated and improved Discovery Place.
We will be moving many of the beloved structures from the current space, like
the storefront, dock and sailboat, but also adding new elements for expanded
play opportunities. There will be a reading tent, a campfire ring, a
farmers market and a magnetic play board to name a few of the new features. We
will also be using this time to test out other ideas with our wee visitors and
their caregivers like book boxes and a water painting wall. Do you have other
ideas? We are adding a feedback board in the exhibit space for your suggestions, comments and
reflections. The first phase of ECHO’s Discovery Place Makeover will open on December, 22nd 2012 and ready for
your children to enjoy.
THE SECOND PHASE: During the fall of 2013 we will launch into
the second phase of the Discovery Place Makeover, creating an expanded and
permanent space for our youngest visitors. Please let us know what you think of
the elements in the interim Discovery Place and what you would like to see in
the permanent new and improved version. All of your input and feedback will
help us as we make future plans. We are very excited about the upcoming changes
and look forward to your feedback. Please feel free to e-mail your suggestions directly to me.
See you at ECHO!
