The beavers around ECHO have been awfully busy lately, they managed to chew down ALL of the trees in Hoehl Park, right outside of our building! Beavers are notorious for their busy nature and for their ability to chew down trees and branches. They have incredibly strong teeth and jaws which allow them to take down trees that are more than five times their size!

Beavers use the materials they collect to build dams that create a suitable habitat in otherwise unsuitable areas. Beavers enjoy calm bodies of water like ponds - even in Lake Champlain they build dams to slow down the movement of the water! They also use trees and branches to create lodges, which as it may sound, are beaver homes.

It’s amazing to see the clean-cut results that the beavers were able to produce, even if it means the beautiful trees are all gone! Next time you visit ECHO or take a stroll through Hoehl Park, check out the teeth marks on these trees to see how tremendous of a job these beavers truly did!
