Good morning everyone! I checked in with Madeline and she is making a lot of progress with her research project. This week, she is analyzing data that she collected from surveys, writing the introduction and method sections for her research paper, and working with a new group of students from UVM’s Upward Bound Program.

Madeline is analyzing the relationships between how far people live from the lake and their concerns/interest for invasive species. She is working to create a general profile for the type of person who already has information on the issue and what their qualities might be. Vice Versa, she is also trying to identify the qualities of those who are not as interested or knowledgeable about the issue. This data will help her to target the people who do not know as much about the issue and will help her to find the most efficient ways to teach these people about invasive species.

As well as this, Madeline is very excited to be working with two students from UVM’s Upward Bound Program. The program allows rising seniors in high school who intend to attend college to take summer classes and help out with undergraduate college projects. These two students will be working with her three days a week for four weeks and will be helping her with her research project. This week they’re discussing plans for the next month, learning about data analysis, and putting together parts of Madeline’s final presentation.

Next week we will check in again with Madeline and the two Upward Bound students on their progress with the final project!
