Today is the second day of summer and we couldn’t be more thrilled at ECHO. The sun is out, the lake is gleaming and there is a lot of positive energy flowing throughout Burlington. Today, I was able to make it outside for a while to take some beautiful pictures of Lake Champlain. I could not be more thankful to be spending my summer in this city.

Now that it’s summer, the kids are out of school and you might be looking for some activities to keep them busy. There are plenty of activities at ECHO this summer between Wacky Wednesdays, visits from the Burlington Fire Department and the US Forest Service, and hanging with Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl. But what about the days where you’re spending some time in the house? Here are some fun and creative things to do for the days at home:

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches:
Bake your favorite type of cookies and add your favorite ice cream flavors for homemade ice cream sandwiches.

DIY: Create your own Galaxy Slime:
Here is a great blog from two-daloo with instructions on how to make the slime, and tips for the process.

Glue Painting:
If you like similar fun with glue and colors, glue painting is a perfect way to occupy your little one for hours.

Secret Message Writing:

This activity is a little less sticky. Using a white crayon, draw or write a secret message and paint over it with watercolors to reveal your secret code!

Lego Candy Dispenser:
A final activity for the kids this summer is to build a Lego candy dispenser. Spending my whole life with kids, it's easy for me to understand how much of a mess they can make with water colors and glue. With Legos, the mess can be contained and they can feel rewarded with sweets after they finish their complex new project.
