Those wandering along the docks outside ECHO recently might have noticed something a little different. Among the motorboats rocking along with the Lake Champlain waves was… a tiny house.
Inside, the house’s resident Carla said this was her third summer on Lake Champlain. Actually on Lake Champlain. The tiny house is a houseboat.

“When you’re not tied to a dock you have lake all around you, it’s really nice,” Carla said.

The 128 square foot space is completely eco-friendly, off-the-grid and solar-powered. Panels to capture the sun’s energy and a lithium ion battery work to keep everything running. Carla and her lake-living partner Claude, utilize an inverter, the same way those with on-land solar homes would. Tubes within the structure heat water as the sun beams down throughout the day.

Carla does anything in her tiny houseboat that others do – she hosts dinner parties, loves to cook, works online and even maintains a blog
