This was a special week at ECHO, particularly for our Eastern Ratsnake, who shed its skin!

Just as our skin flakes and sheds from time to time, snakes and other animals shed theirs. This piece from Northern Woodlands noted that unlike our skin's frequent shedding, snakes do this only once in a while, but all at one time.

ECHO’s ratsnake, upon shedding, was absolutely glowing. Its newly uncovered skin was shiny and the singular shed was kept by Animal Care staff.

Check out these photos, and if you come across a shed snake skin during your outdoor adventures, share them on our Facebook page or at info@echovermont.org
