Share the Love: Bianca and Julian

By Bianca Roa

Hello ECHO family! I'm here again with the Share the Love series and this time it's my turn. If I want you to share your stories, its only fair that I share mine with all of you!

This is my boyfriend Julian. We both go to Champlain College and met at the beginning of our freshman year on move-in day.

One month after we started dating in 2014.

You might be thinking, "Bianca, how exactly did you meet? Thousands of people must of been there on move-in day." I get that. I have friends at other bigger colleges like UVM, and there was no way they would be able to meet all 500 people living in there building and the thousands in their entire class. Champlain is definitely a small college, and our cozy Bader Hall maxed out at around 20 residents, so when I say I met everyone I lived with on moving day, I mean it.

I like to think fate put us at the same college and in the same small dorm so that there was no way that we wouldn't notice how great we were together.

I mean don't get me wrong we're different. He's a city boy from Philadelphia, and I'm a southern girl who lived in the suburbs. I love adventuring with food, and he hates anything green. He's a film major who loves his classics, and I have a serious addiction to D-grade romantic comedies.

But the one thing that makes us work is our love for each other and our commitment to making this relationship work. As XOXO: An Exhibit About Love & Forgiveness teaches, we really have to be aware of what the other person needs, and express our feelings when we don't think the other knows what that is.

I loved being able to show him around ECHO when he came to visit me today. Funnily enough my boyfriend and I had our first date here, and that's just one of the many reasons why I am so passionate about working here. It holds a very special place in my heart like Julian does.

It's cheesy and I know I sound like one of those people in commercials who is clearly paid to say positive things, but I really do love ECHO. This is a science center, yes, but it is so much than that. The care put into everything that goes on here makes it special and it makes me love coming into work everyday. I really just can't get enough of this guy and this place! :)

Us today on the balcony at ECHO.
